The place definitely has the old Zubies 1970's vibe, minus the sawdust on the floor. Kind of a dirty old building that may be falling apart. Went for a late lunch and there were a lot of people there. Full bar. There is a sign at a desk upon entry that instructs visitors to wait to be seated. My friend who brought me here ignored this signage saying no one ever comes if you wait.
We sat in the bar and were soon waited on by a somewhat snarky waiter. I had spilled some of my iced tea and requested extra napkins. He brought out a single cocktail napkin. Oh well.
We ordered the special carnitas tacos. Precluding the arrival of the tacos was a fairly large salad. Lettuce was not at peak freshness but it wasn't bad. The dressing was a mellow blue cheese which was good. Perhaps too much of it though, should have got it on the side.
Tacos came out and were generously stuffed with carnitas and fresh avocado slices. Really good. Plate also had refried beans and the typical Mexican style rice. There were also a few chips that were helpful in scraping the melted cheese off the beans (I don't eat refried beans). Carnitas chunks were cooked well done, I like it this way. Some chunks were too well done to bite off, had to shred them with knife and fork. Tortilla of first taco held up well. The second one fell apart about halfway through. Expected that.
Dusty decor features a lot of cool chicken figures, statues, bottles, etc. -

Marc n I stayed in Newport over the weekend, went to the Beach, hung out enjoying each other, we were hungry and this was close to the hotel. I wanted Fried clams, so Marc wanted to accommodate my request, but I wanted to make sure there was variety aside from fish. We yelped and found this little hole in the wall. Food wasnt too bad and pretty plentiful. The fried clams were not what I expected or wanted but they were unique and delicious to both our surprise. Marc had beef brisket I had 3 pork chops. It was way too much to eat, but hearty. We might be back, but on a mission to keep trying out of the ordinary places.

Amazing bar service and the best mussels ever! Everything here is tasty. Sunday's fish and chips are two for one. Thursday is prime rib night, off the hook. Laid back atmosphere and friendly locals.9496456086

Definitely the best place in town to go for breakfast and a (actually multiple) Bloody Mary. Horacio is awesome, the service is awesome, the drinks are strong, and the whole place has a very homey feel to it. I'd give it 6 stars if that was a thing.
